Improving the comprehension skills of our learners is important along with phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, and vocabulary. These skills will make a good and functionally literate learner.

As you may know, literacy does not only depend on their ability to read words, phrases, and sentences. It's not only about their abilities to read with fluency and understand each word's meaning (vocabulary). A literate learner must be able to understand the whole meaning of reading material. His or her ability to comprehend and answer questions about the texts, getting its main idea, and its purpose will make him/her literate.

However, guiding your learners to attain this skill will require a lot of patience and determination. Sure it is somehow easier to teach them the letter sounds, reading words, phrases, and sentences. But teaching them to think and decode meaning from the texts can be a challenging one. You must adjust to the learning abilities of your learners in order for you to fully understand his ways supported with good reading materials.

Please bear in mind that these are only supplementary reading materials to help our learners to continue reading even while at home. It is organized under MS Word format for easier downloading and printing.
